Most aluminium PV mounting rails are extruded in 6005-T5 (or 6063-T5/T6 for lighter duty) and anodised for outdoor life; an anodic layer of around 10–15 µm is commonly specified for exposed rails. The structural design and certification of the mounting system belong to the system brand under local wind and snow codes; the extruder supplies the rail section, alloy, temper and finish to the drawing, with material certificates.
| Item | Typical specification |
|---|---|
| Alloy / temper | 6005-T5 for spans; 6063-T5/T6 for light duty |
| Finish | Clear anodized, about 10–15 µm, or mill finish |
| Lengths | Standard lengths or cut to size; punched slots |
| Accessories | Mid/end clamps, L-feet, splices, bolts |

What to put on the drawing
Section, alloy and temper, finish and thickness, length, punching positions and tolerances. Add the packing you need for your installers.
Corrosion
Keep aluminium separated from copper and use stainless or coated fasteners to avoid galvanic corrosion, especially near the coast.
